I don't want to mangle what I heard or speak for others, but you may find groups more interested in participating in your research in the context of it confirming their own oral history.

Any thoughts on the links between your work and the distribution of Y-haplogroup C in North America (and its patchy distribution in South America?)Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07906194112935320590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7315236707728759521.post-90322103511342223502020-10-19T14:36:12.376-06:002020-10-19T14:36:12.376-06:00@Andrew

But as a downside my papers tend to be extremely long and difficult to read.

23andMe data could potentially be a very useful resource, yes, but there is a problem that nearly all present-day NNA have colonial admixture. And now I'm generally skeptical of using SNP panels only (for reasons that I explained partially here: https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=4123559132014627431&postID=5682147092734505762&isPopup=true). I'd prefer to rely on shotgun data (and preferably on a neutrally evolving subset of shotgun data) for any major conclusions.Pavel Flegontovhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14086659232119128879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7315236707728759521.post-42893841510002107932020-10-19T11:52:16.678-06:002020-10-19T11:52:16.678-06:00@PavelFlegontov
I'm very impressed with the l...@PavelFlegontov

I'm very impressed with the leaps and bounds made on the linguistic front in a single paper. You're violating the folk cynicism that papers are published in units of the minimum publishable unit to increase publication counts.

Honestly, as my analysis indicates, I think the linguistic narrative analysis was a bit timid in making the obvious leaps. But, the prior works on connections with NE Asia and Northern American linguistics was new to me. There are allusions to folklore links which I think would strengthen the paper if discussed further as they are mentioned but not really explored.

On the other hand, I think it is hard to say that the USR sample really helps much in explaining Paleo-Asian ancestry near the source waters of the Amazon for reasons I explain.

This is also on the clearest delineations of the line between Northern Native American and Southern Native American that I've seen and is further North than I expected.

I wonder if 23andMe data could be harnessed for the largely empty set of data for the U.S. since U.S. Native Americans for understandable reasons, have been reluctant to cooperate with anthropologists in DNA studies.andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08172964121659914379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7315236707728759521.post-91442067296306216442020-10-16T06:43:58.901-06:002020-10-16T06:43:58.901-06:00Thanks for such a detailed summary of our work. It is very hard to _prove_ anything in the field of long-range language comparisons, but we should still keep investigating, I think.Pavel Flegontovhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14086659232119128879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7315236707728759521.post-76610895959643195982020-10-15T15:56:24.671-06:002020-10-15T15:56:24.671-06:00Grr . . . .
