Cyprus appears to have participated in the Neolithic revolution almost two thousand years before second Neolithic appearances in Egypt, the Indus River Valley, the Balkans, the Danubian basin, and Southern Europe.  The first evidence of cats as pets is often ascribed to Egypt, but Cyprus had them much sooner.
