Lepton Universality Not Violated In Top Quark Decays

Lepton universality is the Standard Model principle that electrons, muons, and tau leptons have identical properties except for mass. There have been some experimental anomalies in collider experiments that suggest that this principle is violated despite many other seemingly similar kinds of experiments where these anomalies are not seen.

An new analysis of top quark decays from ATLAS experiment data at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)  is consistent with an absence of lepton universality violations. This further contributes to the difficulty of identifying any beyond the Standard Model physics that could give rise to the lepton universality anomalies observed in certain kinds of B meson decays, while not producing any signs of lepton universality violations in any other kinds of interactions.
