I've discussed this in a post from six and a half years ago (citing some sources from a decade ago), so this isn't exactly breaking news, but a new study (in Spanish or Portuguese) adds to the body of evidence demonstrating that there were once farmers in the pre-Columbian era in the Amazon region.
For reasons unknown, this civilization collapsed in pre-Columbian times.
