Excess D Meson CP Violation Possible With SM Physics?
A 1989 publication, now touted by its author in comments at a physics blog, predicted the high levels of CP violation seen in the D meson decays at LHC from Standard Model physics. The details of the calculation are rather arcane, and resort to a rule used to make calculations in kaon decays that wasn't well understood in 1989, but the bottom line is that the article concludes that unexpectedly large CP violations could be a result of an error in the Standard Model theoretical prediction because certain terms of the equation of more important than would be naiively expected, rather than a case of experiment deviating from expectation.
