Metallic Hydrogen Observed

The journal Nature reports the first observed and substantiated probably instance of hydrogen being forced into a solid metallic state (something that has long been predicted, although the exact experimental conditions necessary to create this state were unclear). It was done at 80 degrees Kelvin at about 425 gigapascals (i.e. more than four million atmospheres) of pressure.
